"When Did You Begin Teaching
Stress Management, Sukala?"

It's not something I ever thought I'd be doing. I began emceeing and then teaching meditation classes in 1989. Working with hospital patients, seeing how much just one or two minutes of meditation relaxed them, led to stress management workshops, meditation classes and retreats.

We are all so busy today in our lives. We all want to decrease stress or heal an illness, so we can live well and have an active retirement. Our goals may include quality time with our grandchildren or traveling with our husbands or friends.

Meditation Escape Stress Management classes include brief meditations.

There is something more powerful than speech and that is our breath. Meditation on the breath and other techniques, short and easy to do, actually dissolve the stress in our body and mind. Discussing and acknowledging the problem is important, so we can identify what we want to change. I experienced over and over again that adding some meditation every day created real change. It's like eating and sleeping, it's that beneficial.

Medical research tells us there are five medical benefits from meditation. They are actually anti-aging -- a nice side benefit -- just from a little daily meditation!

In my work as a Health Care Director and as a hospital Social Worker, I had the opportunity to work with many patients. The most satisfying days were those when I could help someone to completely release their anxiety and often their pain by doing an easy meditation.

After some years, I trained as a speaker and presenter by obtaining accreditation as a Level 1 & 2 Trainer. This allowed me to bring meditation to groups. There was a real thirst for stress management techniques and the feedback I received was more positive than I expected, both from corporate staffs and small business owners.

Close to my heart is the eastern meditation and teachers I have studied with since 1981. Briefly, my search for meditation started when I woke one morning at age 18 with chest pain. I thought it was a heart attack but it was anxiety. But you know, that pain was a blessing in disguise. I wanted to know the purpose of life and I especially wanted peace. It gave me the deep peace that was there; I just needed some help finding it.

Before learning meditation my mind was constantly thinking, racing and worrying. Can you relate to that? Soon after learning meditation, I had a direct experience of oneness - the total harmony that physicists say underlies all forms of life.

Here's how it happened. I'd just finished many hours of meditation at a retreat. I was sitting in a restaurant waiting for a friend and felt peaceful and contented, looking around at people’s faces. After a while, I became aware of feeling like I 'knew' each person. When I tried to remember their names, I realized I hadn’t met any of them. I was amazed because it was the inner love, harmony, that I was feeling.

Meditation, as you might imagine, heals on all levels. One way I experienced it was after my father’s suicide. I went away from my family, confused and terribly sad. Soon after I began meditating, my relationships with my mother and sister were restored. For years now, my family relationships have been supportive, joyful and loving.

I didn't know one day I would be teaching meditation and stress management... It's not something I signed up for. I just found it extremely valuable from the day in 1981 when I was told to do it daily. Even a few minutes a day results in helpful insights and understanding, like with people and situations. An insight begins releasing stress until the entire situation is working and healthy. At other times, meditation inspires through beautiful images like crystals, placid lakes, moons or mountains.

Mystics and scientists now agree that we are so much more than this physical body. There is a spiritual power within us that is intelligent, compassionate and loving beyond measure. Everyone has it. This is why everyone can meditate.

Meditation Escape™ was born so people would have a wide variety of simple techniques to manage their daily lives with peace and serenity. This link takes you to other people's comments about their meditation.
