Are You Experiencing Stress Related Hair Loss?

Stress related hair loss is more an emotional problem than a physical one. As a woman, having nice looking hair is surely a significant part of your daily grooming; it may even be strongly linked to your self-esteem.

What we say to ourselves when we are having a bad hair day tells us how fragile or stable our self-esteem is. I can remember almost missing a party once because I believed my hair didn’t look right!

Stress Related Hair Loss Is A Serious Condition

Mayo Clinic researchers confirm two types of hair loss. They say:

Stress Related Hair Loss

"The most common type of stress-induced hair loss is telogen effluvium. In this condition, severe stress - such as due to illness, injury or surgery - causes large numbers of hairs to stop their growing phase and shift into a resting phase. Two to three months later, the resting hairs suddenly start falling out. In such cases, your hair eventually grows back within 6 - 9 months".

"Intense stress can also trigger a type of hair loss called alopecia areata. In this condition, white blood cells attack the hair follicle, which stops hair growth. Within weeks, the affected hair falls out. With alopecia areata, hair loss usually starts as a small round patch but may eventually spread to the whole scalp - and sometimes to body hair as well. Your hair may grow back, but treatment may be necessary."

If stress related hair loss has affected someone you know and/or if you believe you fit the criteria for possibly developing this condition, you will want to know how to prevent it.

You’ve seen already how stress affects health. Similar to the prevention of other life-threatening diseases generated by stress, you can prevent hair loss in the same way.

With Stress Related Hair Loss, Prevention Is Easier Than The Cure

Researchers say that hair loss is caused by severe stress from illness, injury and surgery.

We already know that illness is most often caused by mental and emotional stress. We also know that stress causes accidental injuries.
It’s likely that the need for surgery is related to stress also, because it is performed for three main reasons: accidental injury, illness/disease, and conditions related to birth. With the exception of the third, the others come around again to one’s stress factors.

For stress related hair loss, five to ten minutes a day of meditation is #1 in preventing this condition. The reason meditation is so effective is because it re-sets your emotions and mind to "calm".

Meditation does so much more than just relax you! It has been proved to heal your body and it leads you back to your natural state: serenity, creativity and forgiveness. A great meditation master I spend time with has said, "Meditation doesn’t solve problems, it dissolves them."

This is my constant experience and it’s the reason I describe meditation as my lifeline.

While pride in the body and your appearance is natural, ask yourself: "To what degree is how I feel about myself determined by my hair (or other parts of my body)?" In other words, who do you think you are vs. who you really are... Don't let stress related hair loss to damage your self-estem and further increase your stress!

Have you ever asked yourself why do people meditate? Whoever you are, through meditation you can discover your goodness and radiance. Five to ten minutes a day improves your health, increases your self-knowledge and unfolds your spiritual awareness. It opens the doorway to self-love, happiness and fulfillment.

Would you like to discover a simple meditation technique? You can practice it anywhere and anytime you feel stuck, anxious, stressed out, or upset.
